  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Albany is the state capital, and it is also the city in the address DMV prints for American Safety, the internet PIRP sponsor this site links to: 111 Washington Avenue, Suite 606, Albany, NY 12210. That office is the sponsor. This website is not that office, and it is not the DMV.

Capital Region driving uses I-787 along the Hudson, I-90 toward Schenectady and Massachusetts, and I-87, the Northway, toward Saratoga and the north. State employees and everyone else are under the same point schedule.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-787 and the Dunn Memorial Bridge. I-787 runs along the Albany riverfront. The Dunn Memorial Bridge crosses to Rensselaer. A ticket on either side of the Hudson is still a New York DMV matter.
  • I-90 and I-87. The Thruway and the Northway meet the Capital Region’s commute. Points from those highways count toward the same 11-points-in-24-months suspension threshold.
  • Empire State Plaza and downtown streets. Downtown Albany is ordinary city driving. The course covers statewide traffic law and defensive driving. It does not include a special capitol-area chapter that this site can promise.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Albany. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

DMV lists American Safety’s identity checks for the internet course as keystroke analysis plus personal and content questions. You will be asked to prove you are the person who enrolled. DMV says someone who takes a certificate without personally finishing the course can be prosecuted.

Because the sponsor’s published address is in Albany, Capital Region drivers sometimes assume they must attend in person. The course this site links to is the internet course. DMV says you can take I-PIRP from home and must finish within 30 days of registration. Classroom courses exist too. They are a different delivery method and are not what the enroll button on this page opens.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Albany

Is this site run from the Albany sponsor office?

No. DMV lists American Safety at 111 Washington Avenue, Suite 606, Albany. American Safety Institute publishes that address for its New York office. NY 10 Percent Off is an independent affiliate. The enroll link goes to the provider’s checkout. It does not contact the Albany office through this website.

Do state vehicles or capitol parking rules change the 10%?

No. Eligibility for the insurance reduction depends on completing an approved course and being the principal operator of the insured vehicle. It does not depend on working for the state. The course also does not change parking rules.
