This is the statewide American Safety Institute checkout. There is no separate Allegany County link or price on this site.

  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Allegany County sits on the Southern Tier, with Belmont as the county seat and Wellsville, Cuba, and Alfred as the towns where most errands happen. I-86 crosses the northern part of the county. Winter roads in the hills are a reason people want a refresher. They are not a reason the insurance reduction is larger than the statewide 10% of the base rate.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-86. The Southern Tier Expressway is the fast route toward Steuben and Cattaraugus Counties. Tickets on it use the statewide point schedule.
  • Route 19. It runs north–south through Belmont and Wellsville. It is a posted state highway, not a separate point system.
  • Route 417. This is the older east–west road through the Wellsville and Cuba area. A conviction here stays on the record after the course.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Allegany County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Alfred University and Alfred State bring student drivers into a county that is otherwise small-town. A student who is the principal operator of an insured car can receive the reduction. A student who is only listed on a parent’s policy should ask the insurer who the principal operator is before enrolling.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Allegany County

Does a rural Allegany County ticket count less than a downstate ticket?

No. DMV uses one point schedule. Eleven points in 24 months can lead to a suspension anywhere in the state. The course subtracts up to 4 points from that calculation and does not erase the conviction.

Does Allegany County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
