This is the statewide American Safety Institute checkout. There is no separate Cayuga County link or price on this site.

  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Cayuga County’s seat is Auburn, and the Thruway crosses the northern towns while Skaneateles and the Cayuga Lake shore draw a different kind of trip. A driver who lives in Auburn and works in Syracuse is still under one point system. The county line at Onondaga is not an insurance boundary.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-90. The Thruway crosses the north of the county toward Syracuse and Rochester. Thruway convictions stay on the record.
  • US 20. It runs through Auburn and is the main east–west surface road. It is not a separate point region.
  • Route 34 and Route 38. These routes tie Auburn to the lake towns. A ticket in either place uses the statewide schedule.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Cayuga County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Skaneateles traffic in summer is a local condition. The certificate rules are not seasonal. DMV says the sponsor mails a paper certificate, an email copy is not valid for the insurer, and presenting it within 90 days makes the liability and collision reduction retroactive to the completion date.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Cayuga County

I garage the car in Auburn and commute to Syracuse. Which county’s rule applies?

Neither county has its own rule. The principal operator of the insured vehicle can receive the 10% base-rate reduction for three years. Where the garage sits inside Cayuga County does not change the percentage.

Does Cayuga County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
