  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Chenango County is a Route 12 county. Norwich is the seat, and Greene and Oxford are the other stops on that north–south road. There is no interstate through the middle of the county. That does not create a gentler point system. A speeding conviction on Route 12 counts like a speeding conviction on a downstate parkway.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Route 12. The spine of the county, from the Broome County line through Norwich toward Madison County.
  • Route 206. An east–west road through Greene and the southern towns. A ticket here remains on the record.
  • I-88 nearby. The interstate is in the next county for many residents. Using it does not change which PIRP rules apply when you get home.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Chenango County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

People here often drive into Broome County for work or medical care. The course you finish online still reports to the New York DMV, not to a county court. You send the paper certificate to the insurer yourself.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Chenango County

Norwich does not have a separate insurance region, does it?

It does not. The reduction is 10% of the base rate of liability, no-fault, and collision premiums for three years, and only for the principal operator. Repeating the course sooner than every three years does not raise that 10%.

Does Chenango County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
