  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Delaware County is large and hilly, with Delhi as the county seat and Walton, Sidney, and Margaretville as the other centers. Route 17 runs along the southern edge, and Route 28 runs up toward the Catskills. A long drive to a grocery store does not change how DMV adds points, and it does not extend the 30 days you have to finish an internet course.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Route 17 / I-86. The expressway clips the southern towns, including the Sidney area, toward Broome County.
  • Route 28. It runs through the Catskill side of the county toward Kingston and Oneonta. It is a posted state route.
  • Route 10. A north–south road through Delhi. Town-speed tickets here are still New York convictions.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Delaware County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

The New York City watershed shapes land use here. It does not shape the insurance statute. A car garaged in Sidney is still a New York policy for this purpose, and the paper certificate still has to go to the insurer.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Delaware County

Delhi is far from an interstate. Does that lower my point total?

Distance from an interstate does not change the math. Points come from convictions, using the statewide schedule, and are counted by violation date. The course looks back 18 months and cannot drop the total below zero.

Does Delaware County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
