Lewis County is north of the Mohawk and west of the Adirondacks, with Lowville as the county seat and the Black River towns along Route 12. There is no interstate. Dairy-country roads and a trip south toward Utica are the usual pattern. The lack of an interstate does not soften a speeding conviction.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Roads that matter here

  • Route 12. The main north–south road through Lowville toward Watertown and Boonville.
  • Route 26. It serves the western side of the county. A ticket here remains on the abstract.
  • Route 812. A connector toward Jefferson County. Using it does not change the 10% base-rate rule.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Lewis County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

People drive to Watertown or Utica for services that Lowville does not have. Those trips cross county lines and stay on one license. The DMV office finder may send you to an office outside the county. The course does not.

Is Lewis County too rural for an internet course?

DMV requires a computer and an acceptable internet connection for the internet course. If you have that, the county’s size is not a barrier. You must still finish within 30 days of registration.

Does Lewis County have its own course price?
