  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Madison County sits between Syracuse and Utica. Oneida and Canastota are on the canal and the Thruway. Cazenovia and Hamilton are hill towns with college traffic. A ticket in Hamilton and a ticket on I-90 both land on the same abstract.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-90. The Thruway crosses the northern towns, including Canastota. Thruway convictions remain on the record.
  • US 20. It runs through Cazenovia and Madison toward Albany and Auburn. It is posted.
  • Route 5 and Route 46. Valley and north–south roads through Oneida and the northern towns.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Madison County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Colgate University is in Hamilton. A student who is not the principal operator should not expect the 10% reduction. Ask the insurer. The course also does not dismiss a ticket written on Route 20.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Madison County

I live in Cazenovia and work in Syracuse. Which county page should I use?

Use either. The checkout is statewide. This page describes Madison County roads. The Onondaga County and Syracuse pages describe the city you commute to. The legal benefit does not change at the county line.

Does Madison County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
