  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Oneida County holds Utica and Rome, two cities with different street grids and the same DMV. The Thruway and Route 49 connect them. Griffiss and the eastern suburbs add short highway trips. A ticket in Rome and a ticket in Utica add together.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-90. The Thruway passes Utica. Convictions on it stay on the record.
  • Route 49. It ties Utica to Rome along the north side of the valley.
  • Route 12. A north–south route through Utica toward the Adirondack edge of the county.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Oneida County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

The Utica page covers that city’s streets. This county page covers Rome and the highway between them. The checkout is the same. There is no Rome price and no Utica price on this site.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Oneida County

Do Utica and Rome share one point total?

Yes. Both are New York DMV. Eleven points in 24 months can lead to a suspension regardless of which city wrote the tickets. The course subtracts up to 4 points from that calculation only.

Does Oneida County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
