  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Ontario County sits at the north end of Canandaigua Lake, with Canandaigua and Geneva as the two centers and Victor as the Thruway exit toward Rochester. Finger Lakes tourist traffic in summer and a Victor commute in January are one point system.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-90. The Thruway crosses the northern towns, including Victor and Manchester.
  • Route 5 and US 20. They run through Geneva and Canandaigua. They are posted.
  • Route 332. The road from the Thruway exit into Canandaigua. Local tickets stay on the record.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Ontario County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Geneva sits on the Seneca County line. A ticket on the Ontario side and a ticket on the Seneca side are both New York. The course looks back 18 months for point reduction and does not care which side of the city you were in.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Ontario County

Does lake traffic in Canandaigua change the 30-day limit?

No. DMV requires the internet course to be finished within 30 days of registration, in as many sessions as you need. Summer traffic does not extend that.

Does Ontario County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
