  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Orange County is one of the Hudson Valley’s commuter counties. Newburgh, Middletown, Monroe, and the Harriman area feed I-84, I-87, and Route 17. A garage in the county and a job in New Jersey or New York City is common. The New York course handles the New York record. It does not do New Jersey’s point credit.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-84. It crosses the county from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge toward Pennsylvania. It is posted.
  • I-87. The Thruway runs through Woodbury and Harriman toward Albany and the city.
  • Route 17. It runs toward Middletown and Sullivan County. A ticket here stays on the New York record.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Orange County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

If you also want a New Jersey MVC point reduction, that is the separate New Jersey course. Do not expect the New York checkout to file a New Jersey completion. For the New York 10%, you still must be the principal operator of the insured vehicle.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Orange County

I work in New Jersey and live in Orange County. Which course?

Use the New York 6-hour course for your New York license and New York insurance reduction. Use the New Jersey course only for New Jersey MVC points and a New Jersey insurer’s reduction. They are different checkouts.

Does Orange County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
