  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Oswego County runs from the city of Oswego on Lake Ontario through Fulton and Mexico toward Syracuse. Lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario is a winter fact, especially near the shore. I-81 clips the east side, and Route 481 carries the commute into Onondaga County.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Route 481. The main road from Fulton and Oswego toward Syracuse. It is posted.
  • I-81. It crosses the eastern towns toward Watertown and Syracuse. Tickets stay on the record.
  • Route 104. The ridge road across the county toward Rochester and the North Country.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Oswego County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

A Fulton garage and a Syracuse job are a common pair. The principal operator gets the 10%, not both drivers, and not a higher rate because of the snow. The Syracuse and Onondaga pages describe the other end of that commute.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Oswego County

Does lake-effect snow in Oswego raise the insurance reduction?

No. The reduction is 10% of the base rate for three years. Weather does not change it, and the course does not stop a premium increase caused by a crash or a violation.

Does Oswego County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
