  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Poughkeepsie is the Dutchess County center on the Hudson, with the city and the town sharing Route 9 and the arterial. The Mid-Hudson Bridge brings Ulster County cars across. A ticket in the city and a ticket in the town are one record.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • US 9. It runs through the city and town toward Hyde Park and Wappinger. It is posted.
  • US 44 and Route 55. The arterial across the city toward the Taconic. Tickets stay on the record.
  • Mid-Hudson Bridge. It connects to Highland in Ulster County. Crossing it does not split your points.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Poughkeepsie. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

The Dutchess County page covers the Taconic and the rest of the county. This page is the Poughkeepsie roads. The checkout is statewide. There is no city fee and no town fee on this site.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.
