  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Rockland County is west of the Hudson and south of Harriman, with New City as the seat and Spring Valley, Nanuet, and Stony Point as everyday destinations. I-87, the Palisades Interstate Parkway, and the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge carry commuters toward Westchester and New York City. A New Jersey line is a few minutes from many of those drives.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-87 / I-287. The Thruway crosses the county toward the bridge and Harriman. It is posted.
  • Palisades Interstate Parkway. A north–south parkway toward New Jersey. A New York conviction on the New York portion stays on your New York record.
  • Route 59. The commercial strip through Nanuet and Spring Valley. Local tickets are not dismissed by this course.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Rockland County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

If you cross into New Jersey on the way to work, the New York course still only updates New York. The New Jersey defensive driving course is a separate MVC program and is not a 10% New York discount. Use the course that matches the license and the policy you are trying to change.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.
