  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Steuben County is Corning, Bath, and Hornell, spread along I-86 and the routes north toward the Finger Lakes. Corning’s factory traffic and Hornell’s rail town are different streets. A conviction in either city uses the statewide schedule.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-86. The Southern Tier Expressway through Corning toward Elmira and Jamestown. It is posted.
  • I-390. It reaches the county near Avoca and runs toward Rochester. Tickets stay on the record.
  • Route 415. The older road along the interstate through Corning and Bath.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Steuben County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Bath is the county seat and sits between the two larger cities. People drive the length of the county for a single errand. That distance does not extend the 30 days you have to finish the internet course.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Steuben County

Do Corning and Hornell keep separate point totals?

No. Both are on your New York record. The course can lower the total DMV uses for a suspension. It cannot drop that total below zero, and it does not erase the tickets.

Does Steuben County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
