  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Sullivan County is a Route 17 county, with Monticello as the seat and Liberty, Monticello’s exits, and the western Catskills as the driving. Seasonal traffic toward the mountains is real. It does not create a seasonal point credit or a higher insurance reduction.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Route 17. The quickway through the county toward Orange County and Binghamton. It is posted.
  • Route 42. A north–south road through Monticello. Local tickets stay on the record.
  • Route 52. It crosses the county through Liberty. Using it does not change the 36-month insurance clock.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Sullivan County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Many residents drive to Orange County for work along Route 17. A garage in Liberty and a job in Middletown are one New York commute. The principal operator receives the 10%. The Orange County page describes the other end of that road.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Sullivan County

Does mountain resort traffic change how often I can take PIRP?

No. Point reduction is once in 18 months. The insurance reduction is maintained by taking the course once every 36 months. Resort season is not a separate rule.

Does Sullivan County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
