  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Tioga County is the river county between Broome and Chemung. Owego is the seat, and Waverly sits at the Pennsylvania line. Route 17 and Route 96 do almost all of the through driving. A short county does not mean a short point memory. Convictions still show for years.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Route 17 / I-86. The expressway through Owego and Waverly. It is posted.
  • Route 96. It runs north from Owego toward Ithaca. A ticket here stays on the New York record.
  • Route 17C. The older river road. Local convictions are not dismissed by the course.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Tioga County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Waverly drivers cross into Pennsylvania for ordinary errands. This course does not update a Pennsylvania license. It updates a New York record when you have a New York client ID, and you still send the paper certificate to your insurer.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.
