The NJ MVC says two points may be removed from points you currently have, only for a state-approved defensive driving curriculum, only once every five years, and only if points are on your record when you finish. The provider notifies MVC within 7 to 10 business days. A certificate from the license holder is not accepted for that point credit.
- This is not the Driver Improvement Program or the Probationary Driver Program.
- New Jersey’s insurance reduction is an amount the insurer’s actuarial experience justifies, for three years, under N.J.S.A. 17:33B-45.1.
- It is not New York’s 10% base-rate reduction.
- MVC lists American Safety Institute, Inc. among approved online providers.
Questions
Is the New Jersey point reduction 4 points, like New York?
No. MVC describes two points, once every five years, and only if you already have points.
Is the insurance discount 10%?
New York’s 10% rule does not apply. New Jersey requires an appropriate reduction set from the insurer’s experience. This site does not state a New Jersey percentage.
