Successful completion provides a 10% reduction, for three years, in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums. You must be the principal operator of the insured vehicle. That is the statement allowed by DMV’s course-advertising regulation. The PIRP page also says an approved course reduces the base rate of auto and motorcycle premiums by 10% each year for three years.
- If more than one person on the policy finishes, only the principal operator receives the 10%.
- You keep it by taking the course once every 36 months. Taking it sooner does not raise the reduction.
- It does not stop a general premium increase, or an increase from a violation or a crash.
- The sponsor mails a paper certificate. DMV says an email copy is not valid for your insurer.
- Present the certificate within 90 days and the liability and collision reduction is retroactive to the day you finished.
This site does not estimate dollars saved. American Safety’s course is approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for point and insurance reduction. The provider is listed on the DMV sponsor list.
Questions
Is the discount 10% off my whole bill?
DMV describes 10% off the base rate of liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, and also says the course reduces the base rate of auto and motorcycle premiums by 10% each year for three years. It does not promise a dollar amount, and it does not stop other increases.
Does every driver on my policy get it?
No. Only the principal operator receives the 10% when more than one named person completes the course.
