  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

The Town of Brookhaven stretches across central Suffolk, including Patchogue, Medford, Coram, and Port Jefferson. The Long Island Expressway, Sunrise Highway, and Route 112 cover very different trips inside one town. A town this large still does not get its own point system.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Brookhaven. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

A garage in Coram and a job in Nassau is a long commute on one license. The 30-day course clock does not grow because the commute is long. You finish the internet course within 30 days of registration, from home.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Brookhaven

Brookhaven is huge. Is the course different in Port Jefferson than in Patchogue?

No. Both are in Suffolk County and in New York. One statewide checkout, one set of DMV rules.

Does Brookhaven have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
