  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Broome County is the Triple Cities: Binghamton, Johnson City, and Endicott, plus Vestal along the Susquehanna. I-81 and I-88 meet here, so a lot of driving is interchange driving rather than a long commute into New York City. The point system does not care that the trip ended at a shopping plaza in Vestal instead of a Manhattan avenue.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-81. It runs north toward Syracuse and south toward Pennsylvania. An I-81 speeding conviction stays on the driving record.
  • I-88. It leaves the Binghamton area toward Albany. Crossing into Delaware or Otsego County does not switch point systems.
  • Route 17 / I-86. The Southern Tier Expressway carries local and through traffic along the river. Posted limits override any guess about a city default.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Broome County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Binghamton University sits in Vestal. Campus traffic and I-81 truck traffic are different problems, and both still produce ordinary New York convictions. The city page for Binghamton covers downtown. This county page covers the towns around it.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Broome County

I drive from Endicott to Binghamton every day. Do I need a Broome County course?

No. The course is online and statewide. There is no Broome County version. Search the DMV office finder if you need an in-person office. The course itself does not require that visit.

Does Broome County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
