This is the statewide American Safety Institute checkout. There is no separate Ithaca link or price on this site.

  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Ithaca’s streets are steep, and Route 13 is the way most cars enter and leave. Cornell and Ithaca College add drivers who may be on a parent’s policy. The city page is for those streets. The Tompkins County page covers Dryden, Lansing, and the county routes.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Route 13. The highway through the city toward Cortland and Elmira. It is posted.
  • Route 79. An east–west road across the hills. Tickets stay on the record.
  • Cayuga Street and downtown. City driving. The course does not dismiss a ticket written here.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Ithaca. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

If you are 18 or older with a New York photo learner permit and you still need a first license, the 5-hour course is the pre-licensing course. It will not give you the insurance reduction. If you already have a license and want the 10%, use the 6-hour course.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Ithaca

Can a student in Ithaca get both the pre-licensing course and the insurance discount from one class?

No. They are different courses with different checkout links. The 5-hour course does not reduce points or insurance. The 6-hour course does not replace the pre-licensing requirement.

Does Ithaca have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
