Jefferson County is Watertown, Fort Drum, and the routes to the Thousand Islands and the St. Lawrence. I-81 is the spine. A large military post means many drivers are new to New York plates. The course still requires a New York client ID if you want it posted to a New York record, and it does not change another state’s license.

How it works

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Roads that matter here

  • I-81. It runs from the Syracuse direction through Watertown toward the Thousand Islands bridges.
  • Route 3. It connects Fort Drum and Watertown toward the Adirondacks. It is a posted state route.
  • Route 12. A route toward Clayton and the river towns. Border crossings are not part of what this course reports.

Does a Fort Drum address change the 18-month point rule?

No. Point reduction is available once in 18 months for violations in the 18 months before you finish. A military address does not create a separate clock. Insurance reduction is kept every 36 months.

Does Jefferson County have its own course price?
