  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Monroe County is Rochester plus Greece, Irondequoit, Brighton, Henrietta, Pittsford, and the lakeshore towns. The Rochester page covers I-490 through the city. This page is for the county around it, where I-390, I-590, and the Lake Ontario shore do the daily driving.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-590. The eastern loop around Rochester, through Brighton and Irondequoit. It is posted.
  • I-390. It runs south through Henrietta toward Livingston County. A ticket here stays on the record.
  • Route 104. The ridge road along the north of the county, toward the lakeshore towns and Wayne County.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Monroe County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

A car garaged in Henrietta and driven to a job in Greece is still one policy. DMV awards the 10% to the principal operator, not to every town the car passes through. Lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario does not increase the percentage.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

No. Both pages use the statewide American Safety Institute link. Read the Rochester page for the inner expressways and this page for the suburbs.
