  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Onondaga County is Syracuse plus Liverpool, Cicero, Dewitt, Camillus, and Baldwinsville. I-81 and I-690 meet in the city, and I-90 runs across the north. The Syracuse page covers the city. This page is for the county exits where most of the cars are garaged.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-81. It runs north toward Watertown and south toward Cortland, through Syracuse.
  • I-690. The east–west freeway through the county’s center. It is posted.
  • I-481. The eastern bypass. A ticket on the bypass counts the same as a ticket on a city street.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Onondaga County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

A policy garaged in Cicero and driven to a job downtown still turns on the principal operator. Suburb and city are not two insurance regions. The paper certificate goes to the insurer either way.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.
