  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Syracuse is where I-81 and I-690 cross, with a compact downtown and neighborhoods that feed those interstates. The Onondaga County page covers the suburbs. This page is for city streets and the downtown interchanges. A city ticket and a suburb ticket add together.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • I-81. It cuts through the city toward Watertown and Binghamton. It is posted.
  • I-690. The east–west freeway through downtown. Tickets stay on the record.
  • Route 5 and Erie Boulevard. Surface routes across the city. Local convictions are not dismissed.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Syracuse. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

University Hill adds student and hospital traffic to an interstate city. A student needs the 5-hour course only if they are getting a first New York license and qualify to take it online. The 6-hour course is the insurance and point course.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Syracuse

Is the Syracuse course different from the Onondaga County course?

The checkout is the same. This page is the city. The county page is the suburbs. DMV’s benefit does not change between them.

Does Syracuse have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
