  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Ulster County runs from Kingston and Saugerties on the Hudson to New Paltz, Ellenville, and the Catskill edge. I-87 is the through road. Route 28 leaves Kingston for the mountains. A New Paltz commute toward Poughkeepsie crosses the river and stays on one New York record.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Route 32 and Route 9W. River and valley roads through New Paltz, Highland, and Saugerties.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Ulster County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

SUNY New Paltz and Kingston’s shops draw different traffic onto Route 32 and the Thruway. Neither creates a local percentage. The 10% is the base rate, for the principal operator, for three years.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Ulster County

I cross the Hudson from New Paltz to Poughkeepsie. Do the counties split my points?

No. Ulster and Dutchess convictions sit on the same New York record. The course does not divide them, and it does not remove them.

Does Ulster County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
