  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Putnam County is a commuter county between Westchester and Dutchess. Carmel is the seat, and Brewster, Mahopac, and Cold Spring are the towns people name. The Taconic, I-84, and Route 9 carry the trips south toward White Plains and New York City. The county does not have its own 10%.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Taconic State Parkway. The north–south commute road through the county. It is posted.
  • I-84. It crosses at Brewster toward Connecticut and the Hudson. A ticket here stays on the record.
  • US 9. The river road through Cold Spring and the western towns.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Putnam County. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

A car garaged in Mahopac and driven to White Plains is a Westchester commute that starts in Putnam. The principal operator is who matters, not which county wrote the ticket. The Westchester and White Plains pages describe the roads at the other end.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Putnam County

I got a ticket on the Taconic in Putnam and another in Westchester. Are they separate totals?

No. DMV adds points from both counties if the violation dates fall in the same window. The course can reduce the suspension calculation. It does not remove either conviction.

Does Putnam County have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
