  • 10% of the base rate for 3 years
  • Up to 4 points on a suspension calculation
  • 6 hours online, finish within 30 days

Yonkers is the largest city in Westchester and the first city north of the Bronx. The Saw Mill River Parkway, I-87, and Central Park Avenue carry different kinds of traffic, and many of those trips continue into New York City. A ticket on the Bronx side of the line and a ticket in Yonkers sit on one New York record.

How it works

  1. 1 Enroll at checkout The button opens American Safety Institute’s checkout. This site does not change that address.
  2. 2 Finish the 6-hour course DMV says the internet course includes 320 minutes of instruction and must be finished within 30 days.
  3. 3 Certificate, then your insurer The sponsor tells DMV. You give the paper certificate to your insurer. Points stay on your record.

Statewide rule, short version: a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of your current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, if you are the principal operator. Up to 4 points come off DMV’s suspension math, not off the record. The full limits are on the 6-hour course page.

Roads that matter here

  • Saw Mill River Parkway. It runs through Yonkers toward the Bronx and toward White Plains. It is posted.
  • I-87. The Major Deegan becomes the Thruway here. Tickets stay on the record.
  • Central Park Avenue. A commercial north–south street. Local convictions are not erased by the course.

DMV office

The internet course does not require a trip to a DMV office. If you need an office for a permit, a license, or a driving record, search the NY DMV office finder for Yonkers. Hours and which transactions an office handles change, so use that live list instead of a copied address.

What stays the same

Yonkers is outside the five boroughs, so the city’s 25 mph default does not apply on its own streets. TLC’s defensive driving requirement still matters if you hold a TLC license for work in the city. That requirement is not the same as DMV’s 4-point suspension calculation.

If you are 18 or older and still need a first New York license, that is the 5-hour pre-licensing course, not this one.

Questions for Yonkers

Does Yonkers get the New York City 25 mph rule and the Westchester rule?

Follow the signs where you are driving. The point system does not change at the city line. The PIRP reduction applies only to points from violations in the 18 months before you finish.

Does Yonkers have its own course price?

No. This site links to one statewide checkout for the New York 6-hour internet course. American Safety Institute publishes the fee on its course page, and the checkout page shows the amount due. The DMV point and insurance rules do not change by county or city.
